Refresher training - scaffolder
A scaffolder's licence card has to be kept valid. There are two duties for that and it is worth not confusing them.
Repeated familiarisation is carried out once every 12 months under Section 3(1) of Decree No. 147/2013 Coll. In it we go through the changes in the regulations since the last training, the lessons from accidents during scaffolding assembly and the mistakes we see most often in practice. Those are missing anchoring, ground that will not bear the load or is uneven, guard rails left out during assembly, and scaffolding handed over for use without a record. This course covers precisely that duty.
Updating professional training is a separate matter and is carried out every five years under Section 16(8) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. We run it too, just get in touch and we will arrange a date.
Not sure which one is due? Send us the date from the licence card and we will tell you.
Familiarisation is not only due when the deadline runs out. The law also requires it when you transfer an employee to another workplace or other work, or when you introduce a new working procedure or new work equipment (Section 7(3) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). A new scaffolding system is therefore a reason for training even if a year has not yet passed since the last one.
Familiarisation must be demonstrable and the employer has to verify that the employee understands the regulations and working procedures (Section 7(1)(a) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). Without a written record with the date, content and signatures, this is hard to prove during an inspection.
If the scaffolder does not have the licence card yet, start with the course Basic training, scaffolder.
