Refresher training - forklift trucks
A motor truck operator's licence card has to be kept valid. There are two duties for that and it is worth not confusing them.
Repeated familiarisation is carried out at least once every three years under Section 7(5) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. In it we go through the changes in the regulations since the last training and the mistakes we see most often in practice. Those are driving with a raised load, exceeding the load chart and skipped checks before the shift. This course covers precisely that duty.
Updating professional training is a separate matter and is carried out every five years under Section 16(8) of the same Act. We run it too, just get in touch and we will arrange a date.
Not sure which one is due? Send us the date from the licence card and we will tell you.
Familiarisation is not only due when the deadline runs out. The law also requires it when you transfer an employee to another workplace or other work, or when you introduce a new working procedure or new work equipment (Section 7(3) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). A truck of a different kind, for example a side loader or a reach truck instead of a counterbalance truck, is therefore a reason for training even if three years have not yet passed since the last one.
Familiarisation must be demonstrable and the employer has to verify that the employee understands the regulations and working procedures (Section 7(1)(a) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.). Without a written record with the date, content and signatures, this is hard to prove during an inspection.
If the operator does not have the licence card yet, start with the basic forklift truck course.
