Basic training - professional training for work with diisocyanates
Since 24 August 2023 only someone who has gone through training may work with diisocyanates. This follows from Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/1149, which amended Annex XVII to the REACH Regulation. It applies to industrial and to professional use.
Diisocyanates are found in polyurethane foams and sealants, in adhesives, coatings, varnishes and casting compounds. So they turn up in places where a company does not expect them, for example when fitting windows, in insulation work, in a paint shop or in a car repair shop.
Level 1 is general training and is enough for ordinary use. We go through the chemical properties of diisocyanates, the acute and chronic effects including respiratory sensitisation and the onset of asthma, which is irreversible, the routes of exposure and the limits, the correct personal protective equipment, that is gloves, eye and respiratory protection, ventilation and the organisation of work, hygiene after work, the procedure after contact with skin and eyes and after a spill, and labelling and safety data sheets.
You receive a certificate on completion. The training has to be repeated within five years at the latest.
Diisocyanates are among the substances for which the health risk to employees is assessed. Our occupational health service will help with that.
