Who ATEX applies to

If combustible dust arises in your operation, or you work with solvents, paints, gas, fuels or any technology where an explosive atmosphere can form, Government Regulation of the Slovak Republic No. 393/2006 Coll. on minimum requirements for safety and health protection at work in explosive atmospheres applies to you. This is not only about chemical plants. It also covers paint shops, mills, bakeries, sawmills, filling plants, gas boiler rooms and stores of flammables.

The written explosion protection document must be drawn up before work is started for the first time and updated whenever a significant change occurs at the workplace, on work equipment or in the organisation of work (Section 7(2)). Not once an inspection arrives.

What we do for you

Explosion risk assessment. We walk through the operation and assess the likelihood of an explosive atmosphere occurring, its duration, the presence of ignition sources and the extent of the expected effects of an explosion (Section 4).

Classification of areas into zones. For gases, vapours and mists these are zones 0, 1 and 2, for combustible dust zones 20, 21 and 22. What decides is how often and for how long an explosive atmosphere occurs (Annex 1).

The written explosion protection document. It demonstrates the risk assessment, the preventive and protective measures taken, the classification of areas, the identification of equipment and the coordination with other companies at the workplace (Section 7(1)).

Operating rules and a permit-to-work system. Safety data sheets, a description of the risk locations, the intervals for detecting the presence of flammable substances, the list of work requiring a permit to work and the list of employees authorised to issue it (Annex 2).

Marking of entrances to areas with a risk of explosion with the warning sign under Annex 3.

Employee training. We familiarise people with the explosion protection document, the operating rules and the operation of equipment and protective systems. Before anyone is authorised to operate them, we verify their theoretical and practical knowledge, as Annex 2 requires.

When companies need it most often

At final building approval and on a change in the use of a building, when a new technology or a new line is introduced, before a customer audit, during a labour inspection, and whenever an outside company enters the area with tools that spark.

It is linked to hot work

Welding, grinding and cutting in a classified zone is a typical job that requires a permit. If such work is carried out at your site, by you or by contractors, have a look at the Hot Works service as well.

How it works

A site visit, a list of substances and technologies, classification and calculations, proposed measures, preparation of the document and handover together with training. You can have the date and the price in advance, just ask for a price offer.
